Clay Tile

Clay Tile

This is my first time making a clay tile.  While in this unit I have learn a lot about clay then I would thought.   Clay can dry out very easily so while when we are still working with clay we have a brush water in to it once in a while.  To keep it from drying out overnight we will place damp paper towel and place it into plastic bag.  We first research in 2 different biome that we like the most. I chose to research about the marine and tropical rain forest. We then choose a animal or plant that lives in that biome.  After choosing the object we then search for the reference.  We then draw two different pictures that represent each biome.  Finally the clay making can begin.  We each get a base tile to work with for our selected biome, for me it is the marine with coral reefs. Then I build up a rock hill with the interior empty so it can dry faster to place the hill on top up the base we will have to score the edges and on the base on where the edges is going and brush on water and finally place the hill on to the bace and press it on.  After the hill is on the base I start to make different coral reefs and place it on to the hill.   I then create the rocky feeling with pressing a rock in to the clay and leaving the marks on it.   We let it set until is is completely dry and we then bake it.   After it is done we start panting the tile.  We build the value with light and dark colors to try and make it visual appealing.  After we finish painting and is dried we place 3 layers of protective coat and it is finished.
